(The Center Square) – Georgia gas prices didn’t trend upward during the summer travel season and remain at an average of $2.91 a gallon for the second week in a row, according to AAA.
The cost is also the same as a month ago and is 38 cents lower than last year.
“While pump prices are trending higher in many parts of the country, as summer travel winds down, Georgia gas prices remain steady,” said Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Crude oil and fuel demand have both ticked upward, but these changes haven’t yet pushed prices higher for drivers in Georgia, offering a bit of relief for drivers wrapping up their seasonal road trips.”
The highest gas prices in the state are in Savannah at $2.97 for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline. The Catoosa-Dade-Walker counties that border Tennessee had the lowest cost at $2.78 a gallon.
Tennessee gas prices are at $2.77 a gallon on average, according to AAA. The only other Georgia neighbor with higher gas prices was Florida, which is two cents a gallon higher. Alabama gas prices are $2.78 a gallon, South Carolina $2.80 and North Carolina at $2.88.
The national average is $3.15 a gallon. California continues to have the highest fuel prices at $4.50 a gallon. Mississippi has the cheapest gas at $2.71 a gallon.
