(The Center Square) – Georgia Court of Appeals Judge Benjamin A. Land will soon join the state’s highest court.
Gov. Brian Kemp named Land to the Supreme Court of Georgia on Thursday. He replaces former Chief Justice Michael P. Boggs, who returned to private practice earlier this year.
Land was one of four candidates recommended by the Judicial Nomination Commission in May.
“Judge Land has earned the respect of his peers and hardworking Georgians through his commitment to fairness and impartiality, his strong work ethic, and his integrity,” Kemp said. “His extensive experience as a former litigator and judge will make him a valuable addition to the Supreme Court as he continues his service to the people of our state.”
Chief Justice Nels S.D. Peterson said he looked forward to working with Land.
“His background and experience, including years as a state appellate judge, trial court judge, and litigator, position him well to serve on the state’s highest court,” Peterson said.
Kemp appointed Land to the Georgia Court of Appeals in 2022. Former Gov. Nathan Deal named Land to a judgeship on the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit Superior Court in 2018.
Land practiced law in Columbus for 26 years before becoming a judge.
